The Brother of Nephi

The words of his preaching unto his brethern. He confoundeth a man who seeketh [Sherem] to overthrow the doctrine of Christ. A few words concerning the history of the poeple of Nephi.

[Jacob 1] [Jacob 2] [Jacob 3] [Jacob 4] [Jacob 5] [Jacob 6] [Jacob 7]

Jacob was the fifth recorded son of Lehi and his wife Sariah. Lehi names these last two sons after the two Patriarchal Fathers who represented the course by which the Covenant of Abraham, or the promises and blessings of the fathers did follow, to Jacob and from Jacob to to Jacob's son of the Covenant, Joseph of Egypt. He and his brother Joseph were born in the wilderness travel between the valley of Lemuel and the first land of Bountiful. There is some evidence that Jacob and Joseph may well have been twins (See article Jacob and Joseph, Brothers of Nephi). It was to Jacob whom Nephi conveyed the record of the Small Plates of Nephi to keep. And in the separation of Church and State, it was upon Jacob that the leadership of the 'church' was bestowed by Nephi with his brother Joseph given to assisted in that administration. Jacob therefore became the thrid prophet of the Book of Mormon, Lehi and Nephi being the first two prophets of the Book of Mormon.
