The Lord's vineyard (Israel) shall become desolate and his people be scattered—Woes shall come upon them in their apostate and scattered state—The Lord shall lift an ensign and gather Israel—Compare 2 Nephi 15.

The Lord's vineyard (Israel) shall become desolate and his people shall be scattered—Woes shall come upon them in their apostate and scattered state—The Lord shall lift an ensign and gather Israel—Compare Isaiah 5. [Between 559 and 545 B.C.]

  1 aNowa will I sing bto my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his cvineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard din a very fruitful hill:
  2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest avine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a wine-press therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

 1a Now / And then This may be a matter of distinguishing the 'prophetic perfect' case. And thus perhaps a small matter, the clarification that the Book of Mormon Isaiah translation does make is that this was not going to occur in the 'current ancient time' but it would come in the future—'And then'. It can be read and interpreted the same way whether with the single word 'now' with the understanding that the 'now' would be in the 'prophetic perfect' future, but perhaps the more understandable translation is to use the unquestionable familiar 'And then', which without ambiguity often caused by the 'prophetic future' clarifies that it is in the future and NOT in the presence 'time', which the word 'now' might imply to some readers.

  7 For the avineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israela, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for bjudgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold ca cry.
5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard—I will atake away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down;
6 And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor digged; but there shall come up abriers and thorns; I will also command the clouds that they brain no rain upon it.
7 For the avineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israela, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant; and he looked for bjudgment, and behold, coppression; for righteousness, but behold, a cry.

 7a the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israel Now this is of a truth, the Hosts of the Lord is the house of Israel, but who is Israel which Isaiah is speaking of to Judah and who is of Israel today? In Isaiah's speaking to Judah, the Israel which had been hedged in as the Lord's vine was particularly being spoken of as the Kingdom of Israel, the Northern Kingdom of Ephraim. They are they who had been despoiled, their walls werer broken down and they werer carried off into captivity. So from the textual perspective it is Epharim who is Israel. These things had not happend to Judah yet, the Lord's pleasant plant, which Isaiah particularly adds to being along with this house of Israel, and thus not being left out. And now also, who is of Israel today? That may mean a literal descendant of Israel or more particularly in a gospel sense, it is all those who join themselves unto the Lord by conversion and baptism. As John the Baptist alluded to, 'even of these stone [gentiles] is the Lord able to raise up sons unto Abraham'. In a gospel sense, you need not be of the blood of Israel, that is Jacob, in order to be of the house of Israel—God's people who have prevailed in the Lord.
Now therefore a more universal meaning of the name Israel is one or they who do prevail in the Lord. Israel was a name give unto Jacob. That name existed before Jacob. It did not just spring up to existance and meaning in Jacob, but it was applied by the Lord unto Jacob. John the Baptist taught that even of 'these stones' a alusion to the Gentiles, is the Lord God able to raise up sons of Abraham, which may be just as well applied to those who are of the house of Israel. It is not so much genealogy or descent which defines 'who does or will prevail with the Lord'. It is more as to who does come unto God, accept the gospel and become fellow citizens with the saints of God. Thus in such terms, the Lord's vineyard also applies to all who do come unto the Lord in the latter day. True there may or may not be the blood of Jacob in them, but that is not the particular upon the matter as to who will be saved in Christ.

  13 ¶ Therefore my people are gone into acaptivity, because they have no aknowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

  24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the astubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their broot shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
  25 Therefore is the aanger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath bstretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
24 Therefore, as the afire devoureth the bstubble, and the flame consumeth the cchaff, their droot shall be rottenness, and their blossoms shall go up as dust; because they have cast away the law of the Lord of Hosts, and edespised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 Therefore, is the aanger of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them; and the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the midst of the streets.
